Emma Conrad Gillis Compton HENDERSON

Darlington, Feb. 22 - Mrs. Emma J. Henderson age 76, and a resident of the Darlington community practically her entire life, died at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville Wed. morning at 2 o'clock of complications following a hip fracture.  Mrs. Henderson fell at her home here on Dec. 10 and suffered the injury which resulted in her death.  She was taken to the hospital the day she fell and had been a patient there ever since.

The deceased was a daughter of Washington and Sarah Conrad and was born in Montgomery County on August 3, 1856.  She was married three times.

She was first married to David GILLIS April 2, 1874.  Her second husband was Hampton COMPTON, whom she married Sept 3, 1884. On Oct. 8, 1901, she was married to George HENDERSON.  All 3 husbands preceded her in death.

Mrs. Henderson was a member of the Darlington Methodist Church.  She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge.

Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Fred HAAS of Darlington; one son, Howard GILLIS of Peru; one stepson, Ervin Gillis of Edgewood, Ill; 3 grandchildren, Mrs. George Patterson of Hollywood, Cal; Raymond Gillis of Indianapolis; Miss Elsie Gillis of Peru; one foster daughter, Mrs. Eva BUCK RUSH of Racine, wis; two foster sons, Lewis CONRAD of Darlington; Earl HOLVER of NY; two brothers, Clint and Wallace Conrad of Darlington and one sister, Mrs. Ed LOVE of near Darlington.

Funeral arrangements have not as yet been completed.
